What are subterranean termites?

Subterranean termites can cause the most damage of any termite species. These termites build distinctive tunnels, often referred to as “mud tubes,” to reach food sources and protect themselves from open air. They eat wood 24 hours a day, seven days a week, using their saw-toothed jaws to bite off small fragments of wood one piece at a time. Over time, subterranean termites can critically damage a building structure, sometimes causing a total collapse. Subterranean termites threaten homeowners across the country, as they are found in every state in the U.S except Alaska.

The damage caused yearly by termites in the United States is approximately $1.5 billion.

The goal of termite control is to keep structures and susceptible ornamental plants free from termites. Structures may be homes or business, or elements such as wooden fence posts and telephone poles. Regular and thorough inspections by a trained professional may be necessary to detect termite activity in the absence of more obvious signs like termite swarms or alates inside or adjacent to a structure. Termite monitors made of wood or cellulose adjacent to a structure may also provide indication of termite foraging activity where it will be in conflict with humans. Termites can be controlled by application of Bordeaux mixture or other substances that contain copper such as chromated copper arsenate.

What we can do to help?

We Offer Non-Chemical Termite Treatment

Deepdale Pest Control and Inspection Co. offers a non-chemical termite treatment option in the form of termite baiting. We use the Advance® Termite Bait System for this method. Essentially, bait is installed around the foundation of your property, where termites can find it and take it back to the colony. This slow-acting bait will gradually kill off the colony, leaving your home termite free. It is effective, non-invasive, and doesn’t involve any chemicals in order to get the job done.

In addition to the above, we can also help rid your home of pests by using liquid termiticides. This involves injecting the termiticides into small holes; the termites will die after coming into contact with the liquid.

One or both methods may be used, depending on the need.
